Green Venue Selection Guide (Click to Download)


The green venue selection guide is a tool that the USGBC developed for meeting and event planners to use in evaluating and selecting green facilities.  It contains a questionnaire, called the “Hotel and Conference Center Environmental Questionnaire” which uses key environmental metrics from the LEED for Existing Building Rating System, and boils them down into succinct questions that travel managers and meeting and event planners can include in their RFPs and use to find and compare green venues.

Not only is the venue guide a tool for event and meeting planners, but it is also a tool for hoteliers and conference centers to gain insight into the criteria against which your customers will be evaluating your property against your competition. 
 
The huge environmental impact of buildings in general, and the fact that green building can significantly reduce this impact, means that starting your green meeting planning by looking for a venue that has committed to environmental improvement is the best way to ensure a green event.  Finding a green venue is the most important step in holding a green event.  The incentive to a meeting planner for securing a green venue for their events: the sustainable practices that they will be looking to implement at their meeting may be automatic, as the venue’s operations and facility infrastructure will already be in place to accommodate these practices.

Selecting the right facility is just the first step toward holding a green meeting, and is the only step that this guide addresses.  We urge that meeting planners and hoteliers look to the many valauble resources avaialbe for green meeting and event managment to contine with sustainable meeting practices after choosing a green venue.  These include:
