Business Case for Sustainablity Workshop

Join us for a half-day workshop at Seminole State College, Heathrow Campus on May 20th.  Please Click Here for more information and to Register.  Green building and LEED may be all the rage among sustainability enthusiasts, but to capture the vast “middle market” that comprises at least half the construction activity in the US – an absolute prerequisite to making a transition to a sustainable future and a tremendous business opportunity – a compelling value proposition must be made to mainstream developers, institutions and building operators. Brightworks has a proven track record of helping a diverse variety of clients make sustainability work for them. In this 2-hour workshop we will help you become adept in the art of “selling sustainability” to your clients and potential clients.

Honorary David E. Gottfried Scholarship

Each year the Local Central Florida Chapter of the USGBC awards a scholarship in the amount of $1000.  We are constantly looking for area students that display the characteristics of stewards for the environment through their actions and involvement in their community and academic field.  The ideal candidate would display a balance in community, career, and school involvement while upholding respectable academic standards as well as possessing goals of applying their interest in sustainability to their desired career path.
The scholarship is available to Florida residents enrolled in classes for the 2009-2010 academic year in any of the following counties: Orange, Seminole, Brevard, Lake, Osceola and Volusia. The deadline is April 23rd, 2010.

The 2010 deadline for applications for the chapter’s annual scholarship has been extended to encourage additional students to apply!  If someone you know is eligible please encourage them to complete the application.

In November of 2004, the organizing group of the Central Florida U.S. Green Building Council celebrated their Provisional Chapter Status.  We were honored to have as our guest and speaker that evening, David A. Gottfried, Founder of the USGBC and WorldBuild.  As a special thank you to David, we announced that evening that the chapter would begin a scholarship in David’s name to be given as funding allows.

The $1000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2010-2011 academic year to the student who, based on their completion of the scholarship application, has done the most for market transformation, stewardship and promotion of sustainability in their school, community or career field.

The scholarship is available for all students currently enrolled in any college or university in the Central Florida region being defined as counties: Orange, Seminole, Brevard, Lake, Osceola and Volusia County.
