Town & Gown Sustainability – Linking UCF with the Community

When I was invited to a function by Ms. Lee Kernek (an active member of the Town & Gown organization and the VP of Facilities and Safety at the University of Central Florida) which was organized by the Town & Gown, the name certainly threw me off. I wasn’t quite sure what the organization was all about, and with the word “Gown” in the name, I questioned whether or not I was going to be “underdressed” for the event. To those of you who are not familiar with this very active organization, the Town & Gown was founded in 1982 with a mission to “strengthen the relationship between the University of Central Florida and the community”. The word Town refers to the Central Florida community members, and Gown refers to the UCF community members. One of their goals is to encourage the building of relationships between the community and UCF. On January 21, 2010, the Town & Gown sponsored an event called “SUSTAINABILITY! The inside story of UCF’s cutting edge on Energy, Water, and Eco-Initiatives.”
